Orlando City 1-0 New York Red Bulls
Carrasco (34)
Orlando City Stadium, Orlando, FL
Super Sub Servando Carrasco scores the winner as Orlando City bounce back from last week’s loss to go second in the Eastern Conference.
Going into the game both teams were looking to bounce back from defeats from the previous week.
Red Bulls looked to avenge their 4-1 loss to Houston with Orlando looking to improve from a 2-0 defeat to Columbus.
A thrilling opening 15 minutes saw both teams struggle to keep the ball for a considerable amount of time.
New York Red Bulls had the first clear chance of the game Felipe’s long ball bypassed the Orlando defence to send Bradley Wright-Phillips through which saw his dinked effort cleared off the line by Jonathan Spector.
Orlando were then forced into an early change as midfielder Antonio Nocerino went off injured and was replace by Servando Carrasco.
The tempo of the game started to settle which saw New York Red Bulls take control of the game and exploit the wide areas.
In the 24th minute Orlando’s Carlos Rivas and Matias Perez Garcia combined well with Perez Garcia’s curled effort inches wide of the post.
The first goal of the game came in the 34th minute as a fantastic whipped corner by captain Will Johnson was met by sub Carrasco who headed in after peeling off goalkeeper Luis Robles.
As the first half whistle approached the Red Bulls had a goal ruled out after Wright-Phillips was called offside.
Orlando started the brighter of the two teams at the start of the second half as Cyle Larin could not convert into an empty net after a swift counter attack.
As time went on the pressure from New York Red Bulls piled on with Orlando dropping deeper and deeper.
Larin should have doubled Orlando’s lead in the 67th minute after a great pass from Perez Garcia sent him through but was denied by Robles.
The Red Bulls struggled to create any clear chances and as the clock ticked down balls were pumped into the box but Orlando stood strong.
Orlando will be looking to their great home form against LA Galaxy next week.
The Red Bulls will be facing D.C United and will want to improve on a disappointing display.
