Toronto 0-0 Sporting Kansas City

This matchup between Toronto FC and Sporting Kansas City was the fourth goalless draw that these sides have been involved in already this season. SKC have struggled to score on the road, and Toronto were unable to capitalise on the inconsistencies of their opposition.
Sebastian Giovinco was presented with the games first clear cut chance, but he was unable to guide the ball past Tim Melia in the SKC goal.
Sporting Kansas City’s lack of goal threat away from home was evident, as they failed to find any kind of cutting edge in the opening half an hour.
Toronto were then dealt a huge blow, when goalkeeper Clint Irwin picked up an injury, which meant his night was over. Toronto GM Tim Bezbatchenko spoke in the week about having two number one goalkeepers, and the second of the two, Alex Bono, replaced Irwin.
The game struggled to find any rhythm as we approached half time. Johnathan Osorio has Toronto’s next chance, but placed his shot wide of the SKC goal.
English forward Dom Dwyer had a golden chance to give SKC the lead, but his shot was straight at Bono in the Toronto goal.
Giovinco was inches away from opening his account for the season with a free kick in the 59th minute; his free kick flew narrowly over the SKC bar.
The hour mark saw the arrival of former Sunderland forward Jozy Altidore from the Toronto bench. With 12 goals in his last 16 appearances, the Toronto faithful were hoping for more of the same this time around.
SKC had the next notable effort, though, as Bono tipped Gerso Fernandes' effort over the crossbar.
Toronto then moved up a gear and committed more and more players to each attack. As the game approached the final ten minutes, it looked as though it would take a defensive mistake, or a moment of magic to give either side the victory in this clash.
That mistake or piece of genius was not forthcoming, and this one ended as it started - goalless.
