Five fixtures were played on Sunday in the MLS. Here, we take a look at how each of them played out.

FC Dallas 2-1 New England Revolution

Urruti 71', 77' Nguyen (pen) 10'

Venue: Toyota Stadium, Dallas

A quick start for the Revolution led their first goal of the season, with star man Lee Nguyen converting a penalty earned by Antonio Delamea.

New England then defended their lead well but eventually succumbed to Dallas’ pressure, with Maxi Urruti scoring an equaliser. Urruti then scored a second just six minutes later, cooly taking the ball past keeper Cody Cropper and slotting in from a tight angle.

Sporting Kansas City 2-1 San Jose Earthquakes

Feilhaber 37', Jungwirth 92'

Bingham (OG) 89'

Venue: Children's Mercy Park, Kansas City

Kansas City Sporting were looking to end a dry spell at Mercy Park, with their first two games of the new season ending in scoreless draws but faced a stern test against the unbeaten Earthquakes.

Kanas took the lead in the 37th minute, with Benny Feilhaber ending the drought delivering a curling shot into the top corner.

The match remained uneventful until the 89th minute when KC doubled their lead through a Bingham own-goal. Florian Jungwirth added a consolation in the 92nd minute but it was too little, too late for the Earthquakes.

Colorado Rapids 2-2 Minnesota United

Badji 17', Hairston 59' Molino 50', Ramirez 58'

Venue: Dick's Sporting Goods Park, Commerce City

Minnesota United earned their first ever point as an MLS franchise in a tight draw against the Rapids. Colorado pressed straight from kick-off and were rewarded inside the first 20 minutes, with Dominique Badji planting the ball past Bobby Shuttleworth from close range.

Minnesota came back into the game after the half-time break when Mekeil Williams bought down Collen Warner in the box, with Kevin Molino equalising with the resulting penalty. This encouraged The Loons to attack Colorado and took the lead in the 58th minute through striker Christian Ramirez.

It didn’t last for long though when a lapse of concentration saw Marlon Hairston pull one back for Colorado. Minnesota did well to take home a point after Justin Davis was sent off for a poor challenge on Hairston.

Real Salt Lake 1-2 LA Galaxy

Movsisyan 18' Romney 69', Boateng 74'

Venue: Rio Tinto Stadium, Utah

Salt Lake got off to a great start when Armenian striker Yura Movsisyan glanced in Albert Rusnak's cross.

The tables turned in the 44th minute, when RSL midfielder Kyle Beckerman received a second yellow and was sent off.

Galaxy made the most of their extra man advantage in the 69th minute, with defender David Romney thumping Romain Allesandrini’s corner into the top corner.

It only took five minutes for Emmanuel Boateng to grab the decisive goal, capping off a good move with a cool finish, securing LA’s first win of the season so far.

Portland Timbers 4-2 Houston Dynamo

Valeri 11' 58', Torres 38', Quioto 45'

Guzman 66',

Adi 88'

Venue: Providence Park, Portland

It didn’t take long for Portland to grab the game by the scruff of the neck, with Dynamo’s DaMarcus Beasley handling the ball in the box in the 11th minute. Diego Valeri held his nerve, slotting the ball straight down the middle.

It was de-ja vu at the other end when Diego Chara gave away a penalty when he was deemed to have blocked Erik Torres’ freekick. Torres then stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

Romell Quioto scored his second of the season in the 45th minute to put Dynamo ahead before half-time but Valeri made the most of a good opportunity to level the game once more.

Midfielder David Guzman then scored the Timbers’ third of the night just eight minutes later. Fanendo Adi scored a late insurance goal, with Portland taking home all three points
