New York City 1-1 Montreal Impact

Wallace (44) Oduro (67)

New York City and Montreal Impact settle for a draw as Dominic Oduro’s strike cancels out Rodney Wallace’s opener in the cold temperatures at the Yankee Stadium.

New York City FC named an unchanged line up after last week’s 4-0 demolition of D.C. United. Montreal Impact made one change to their starting eleven with Calum Mallace coming in for the injured Marco Donadel.

New York City started brightly and should have scored in the second minute when David Villa won the ball on Montreal’s by-line and his pull back for Jack Harrison was fired over the bar.

New York City continued their pressure but a counter attack from Montreal saw Ignacio Piatti fired wide from his first-time effort.

Montreal should have scored in the 14th minute as Oduro ran through but New York’s defender Maxime Chanot made a fantastic last ditch challenge to save his side.

Harrison kept causing problems on New York’s right wing. Harrison beat his full back in the 19th minute to pull it back for Alexander Ring to hit his strike over the bar. New York’s pressure continued to rise as they pushed for the first goal.

New York were through again in the 26th minute as David Villa raced through to dink the Montreal keeper Evan Bush but it just went wide of the post.

Wallace finally broke the deadlock in the 44th minute as Harrison cut inside to cross to Wallace who then flicked it to Rice whose strike was saved and fell to Wallace to score his second goal of the season.

Second half began with New York continuing their momentum and looked the most likely to score the games second with David Villa and Maximiliano Moralez going close.

New York had their best chance in the 64th minute as a counter attack from Villa set Wallace through who pulled it back for Moralez who should have scored but his shot went wide of the post.

Moralez’s miss seemed to be crucial as in the 67th minute Oduro scored against the run of play, as Patrice Bernier floated a ball into the box for Oduro to control brilliantly slotting it past NYC keeper Sean Johnson levelling the score line.

Montreal gained more momentum and looked to capitalise on their equaliser as they held more possession and started to pressure New York but still struggled to create any chances.

The intensity of the game seemed to lower as substitutions were coming thick and fast and stopped any team gaining momentum.

As the full-time whistle was blown both sides leave Yankee Stadium with a point as the MLS takes a break as we head into the International break.
