Montreal Impact 2-2 Seattle Sounders
M. Mancosu (17) N.Loderio (83 Pen)
I. Piatti (51) W.Bruin (90+4)
Two goals in the last 10 minutes helped Seattle Sounders snatch a point against Montreal Impact at the Saputo Stadium.
The hosts raced into a two goal advantage thanks to strikes from Matteo Mancosu and Ignacio Piatti. But The Sounders struck back at the death through a Nicolas Lodeiro penalty and Will Bruin’s injury time goal.
Both sides came into the game on the back of opening weekend defeats and it was the hosts who started the better when they took the advantage in the 16th minute when Piatti beautifully carved the Sounders defence open for Mancosu to run through and score.
Chances came thick and fast for both teams after the opener with Jordan Morris being denied by fantastic defensive work from the Impact backline. They blocked his goal bound shot to keep themselves in front.
At the other end Hernan Bernardello had his header saved by Sounders keeper Stefan Frei after brilliant work by Chris Duvalli on the wing.
The Sounders were just inches from being level before the break, but Morris’s effort hit the post following a fast counter attacking move.
Just five minutes after the break Impact doubled their lead through Piatti. The Argentine danced through the Sounders defence and worked the space to expertly slot past Frei for his first goal of the season.
The game had been end to end throughout but Impact were much more clinical than their opponents meaning they looked like they were returning to winning ways.
However, the game came to life in the last ten minutes when Oniel Fisher was brought down just inside the area by Laurent Ciman. Lodeiro stepped up and converted the penalty to make for a tense ending to the game.
Seattle upped the pressure on their hosts and were rewarded in the fourth minute of the five minutes played for injury time. Will Bruin who had just come off the bench scrambled home for the Sounders to steal a point and to make sure they didn’t lose two on the spin.
It isn’t the start either of these sides would have hoped for but the Sounders will be the much happier of the teams to take a point away from this one.
